How charging works

  1. Plug in. Connect any USB-C cable to the charging port on your console.
  2. Charge. The LED shows status — usually red while charging, green when full.
  3. Play. A full charge takes two to three hours and gives you 10–25 hours of gameplay, depending on the model.
  4. Repeat. The pack is good for 500+ charge cycles, which is years of use.

Can I still use AA batteries if I want to?

No — the rechargeable pack replaces the AA compartment entirely. In practice that's the point of the upgrade.

How long before the battery needs replacing?

Li-ion cells are rated for 500+ charge cycles, which works out at roughly two to five years of regular use.

Can I use any USB-C cable?

Yes, any standard USB-C cable works — and we include one with every console.

Does it affect performance?

Not at all. Identical performance to AA batteries, just rechargeable.

What if it goes flat mid-game?

Exactly as with AA batteries — save your game, plug in, and keep playing while it charges.

Is USB-C standard or optional?

On the Game Boy Advance it's an optional A$30 upgrade. The SP already has a rechargeable pack built in, and we upgrade its capacity as standard.
